A solving strategy that holds up under pressure

1

Scan first

Sweep the rows and columns quickly. When the rule is obvious, the answer often jumps out — no deep analysis needed.

2

One characteristic at a time

No luck? Examine a single feature — shape, colour, quantity, position, alignment — and check whether a pattern governs it across rows, columns, or both.

3

Test the rule against the answers

Apply your rule to the six options and eliminate. If more than one option fits, your rule is incomplete — there's probably a second rule in play.

4

Don't get stuck

Most timed assessments give you a minute or less per question. If one won't crack, move on and come back at the end with the time you saved.

What is the Matrigma test?

Matrigma is a non-verbal cognitive ability test used by employers worldwide to assess problem-solving and logical reasoning. The classic version has 35 questions in 40 minutes — just over a minute per question; there is also an adaptive version that adjusts difficulty as you go. Each question shows a 3×3 grid of figures governed by hidden rules, with the bottom-right cell missing. Your task: find the rule and pick the figure that completes the pattern from six options. Only one option is ever fully correct — if two seem to fit, there's a rule you haven't spotted yet.
